Howard Jack Friede, aka Howard Jack Bones, Chief Eagle, 63, passed away due to natural causes at Northern Montana Hospital on Monday, March 16, 2026. Wake services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, all at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will follow funeral services in Kuper Memorial Cemetery in Chinook. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Howard was born on July 2, 1962, in Havre to Ernest and Marie (Saddler) Friede, the sixth of eight children. He was raised in Rocky Boy and Box Elder, graduating from Box Elder High School in 1980. Soon after, Howard began working as a dispatcher & detention officer for the Rocky Boy Police Department, a position he held for many years until his health required him to retire.
Howard was a quick-witted, happy man who loved sharing his corny jokes with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing pool, poker, and pinochle. Left-hand arm wrestling was his specialty, and he was a whiz at Trivia Pursuit. Howard was the New England Patriots' #1 fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Marie Friede; siblings, Peggy Friede, Cindy Lawrence, and Daniel Friede; and many extended family members.
Howard is survived by his siblings, Ernestine (Charles) Rosette, Harvey Friede, and Alvina (Buzz) Cochran, all of Rocky Boy, and Tricia Friede-Gardipee of Great Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
