Obituary

Herbert James Hanson, 70 of Havre had his last ride on July 20 th , 2019 while riding his Harley on the Beartooth Pass. He was doing what he loved, in a place he loved, with people he loved.   Herb was born April 12, 1949 to Walter and Jennie (Mosbrucker) Hanson. He grew up on the family farm North of Havre. He attended school in Havre, graduating from Havre Central High School in 1967. He sold his horse to buy the love of his life, Peggy McLain, an engagement ring. They were married June 22, 1969, recently celebrating their 50 th Wedding Anniversary. Together they raised their six children. He farmed and worked at Eddy's Bakery until 1976 when he went to full time farming. He purchased a truck in 1994 and ran a trucking business with his son Hans, H. Hanson Trucking. He hauled seed grain for Wildhorse Seeds (formerly McIntosh Seeds). He also hauled gravel for Patrick construction and enjoyed going out with the train derailment crew. In 2010, while trucking he sustained an injury to his arm which forced him into retirement. After he retired, he enjoyed helping Alec McIntosh during the harvest season.

After injuring his arm he enjoyed many days in the physical therapy department at the hospital exercising, visiting, and playing cribbage. He also had a 3 O'clock coffee crew he met with regularly.

He purchased his 1996 Heritage Softail Classic motorcycle in 1998, enjoying 21 years as a "greasy" biker. Herb and Peggy enjoyed many miles together on their bike by traveling to the Medicine Hat Toy Run, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the Beartooth Rally, and various other locations. His family inherited his love for motorcycling and his children and grandchildren enjoyed many rides and rallies with him. They have enjoyed the Beartooth Rally together for many years. He loved to give grandkids a ride in his sidecar. He also spent many hours in his garage with his sons and grandsons working on vehicles and motorcycles.

Herb was a hard worker, but always put his family first. He loved watching his grandchildren in their different activities, especially hockey.

He is survived by his wife Peggy, daughters Rachael (Brad) Holland, Jennifer (Erik) Shoemaker, Julie (Josh) LaRoque, sons Hans (Susie), Brian (Lesley), and Bradley (Baylee Rook). Siblings Gloria (Gene) Allen, Richard (Doris), Jerry (Linda), and Kenny (Trina) Hanson. Grandchildren Alex, Blake, Cole, Elliott, Decker, Frances, and Henrik Hanson, August Eacker, Junia, Bradi, and Clara Holland, Lindsey Corkran, Alexis, and Nicholas Shoemaker, Reese and Rally LaRoque. He had many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mother and Father-In-Law Francis and Thelma McLain, two infant daughters, and one infant granddaughter.

He always had a silly saying for us. As we went out the door he often said, "Come again when you can't stay so long" and "Glad you got to see me today".
