After graduating from Box Elder High School, he married Mary Ann Shore on December 22, 1946, in Havre at the First Lutheran Church and their union was blessed with three children. Herbert and Mary Ann lived the majority of their marriage in Havre, raising their three children. Herb enjoyed his work as a water well driller, establishing Hi-Line Drilling in the 1960s. He was a family man first and foremost; he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Lions Club, Masons, Elks Club, and First Lutheran Church, where he was a dedicated and involved member. Herb also served as President of the Montana Well Drillers' Association. Herbert was a charitable giver, a wonderful storyteller, and an avid Grizzly's fan; and he had a passion for geology. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Mary Ann; his parents John and Mathilda Freier; his brothers John, Ruben, Arthur, Adolph, Edwin, and Otto Freier; and his sister Anna Shelstad. Herb is survived by his daughters Sharon Freier of Reno, Nevada, and Barbara Freier of Havre; his son Rodger (Stacey) Freier of Havre; his three grandchildren Melissa Martin, Anni Freier, and Cali Freier; his great grandson Hunter Bjelde; his brother Donald Freier of Billings, Montana; and his loving companion Gwen Geil of Missoula. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
