Helen M. Hannum, 94, passed away due to natural causes on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the Big Sandy Medical Center.  Helen's family has suggested that memorial donations be made to the Big Sandy Medical Center, the Big Sandy Senior Citizen Center, St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Helen was born in Choteau, Montana, on January 28, 1922, to Tom and Annie (Goheen) Hilling.  She attended school in Collins, and then went to work at the Columbus Hospital in Great Falls.  While working at the hospital, she met her future husband, Duane Hannum.  Helen and Duane were married April 20, 1942, in Great Falls.  In 1944, the couple moved to the Hannum family farm southeast of Big Sandy, and remained there until 1956, when they moved into Big Sandy.

Helen worked at the Big Sandy telephone office, Gene's Hardware, the Big Sandy Convalescent Home, and the Big Sandy Medical Center.  While at the Medical Center, she earned her GED and became a dietician through schooling.

Helen enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, cooking, and Coffee Club at the Senior Citizen Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband Duane Hannum; parents, Tom and Annie Hilling; five sisters; and three brothers.

Helen is survived by her three daughters, H. Gail, Rita (Woody), and Patti; two grandsons, Darin and Jason; 4 great-grandchildren, Trajan, Damon, Mia, and Jake; and numerous nieces and nephews.
