Obituary

Harvey Stanley, Wah-pun-Ah-Tuk (Morning Star), passed away due to natural causes on September 2, 2020, at Peace Hospice in Great Falls. Wake services will begin at 3:00 p.m. and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2020, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Harvey was born on June 8, 1949, in Fort Belknap, Montana, to Martin and Wilma (Meyers) Stanley. He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending Rocky Boy schools. Following his school years, he entered the US Marine Corps, and served until his honorable discharge. After his military service, Harvey soon moved to Canada, where he lived for many years. He then returned home to Rocky Boy.

Harvey liked playing BINGO. He was a kind man who was very proud of his Chippewa Cree culture. He enjoyed going to sweats and Sun Dances, and he was fluent in the Chippewa Cree language. He followed the traditions of his ancestors to the best of his ability.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Driscilla (Ahenakew) Stanley; parents, Martin and Wilma Stanley; and sister Joyce Stanley.

Harvey is survived by his four children, Earl Stanley of Vermillion, Alberta, Canada, Slade Stanley of Spokane, Washington, Serena McGillis Steffenson of Great Falls, and Tracy Stanley of Washington; several grandchildren; brothers, Thomas Stanley of Rocky Boy and James (Delores) Stanley of Great Falls; sister, Glenda (John) Winterrowd of Great Falls; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends, including special aunts, Esther Spotted Wolf and Peggy Meyers, special uncle, Lawrence (Janice) Meyers, and special nieces and nephews, including Jacqueline (Chance) Houle.
