Grant O. Cochran, 66, passed away on October 29 from complications after open heart surgery at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls. Funeral Mass with Military Honors will take place on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at 12:00 noon at the Red Whip Community Center in Fort Belknap Agency. Per Grant's request, no wake will be held. Grant was born on February 15, 1948, to William and Marie (Shortman) Cochran. He received his education in Montana and Washington. Grant served in the US Army, 125th Signal Battalion, 25th Infantry Division from 1967 - 1970. He was a Vietnam veteran stationed in CuChi, Vietnam. In 1968, he married Susan Haverfield. They later divorced and remained lifelong friends. To this union, one daughter, Christian, was born. In 1992, he married Virginia "Ginny" Snell, and together they ranched in 3-mile until his retirement in 2000. He served on the Fort Belknap Tribal Council 1990 - 1994, and was known and liked for his humor, laughter, and his music. Grant is survived by his wife Ginny of Fort Belknap; daughter Christian (Jerry) Belcourt of Havre; stepdaughter Yvonne Paul of Fort Belknap; son Clinton Cochran of Fort Stewart, GA; sister Pearl Cochran of Havre; brothers William (Mona) Cochran of Warm Springs, OR, and James Cochran of Malta; adopted brothers Vernon The Boy of Box Elder, Dwane Flying of Fort Belknap, and Morris WeaselTail of Browning; special uncle Robert Lee Cochran of Hays; grandchildren, Colton Wedding, Calena Quisno, Shantelle Ball, Hope Paul, and Clarissa; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends. Grant was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sherman, Leon and Tommy; and son Ralph Dale Cochran.
