Gracia M. Gabriel, 82, of Havre passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, of natural causes at Northern Montana Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and private family graveside services will be held at a later date. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Gracia was born on February 27, 1933, in Aberdeen, WA, to Jesse and Dorothy (Bureau) Brownrigg. She was raised in Puyallup, WA, graduating from High School there. Almost immediately following graduation, Gracia caught a train to Great Falls, MT, and found immediate employment at a local bank. In 1952, she married Eugene F. Gabriel in Great Falls, and the couple's union was blessed with five children. From 1973 to 1983, she worked at Havre High School as a cook and supervisor where she reveled in her ability to work and also keep tabs on her teenage brood and their friends. Food service in her blood, Gracia then went on to work at the Havre Senior Center and then at Montana State University - Northern until her retirement in 1999. Following retirement she and her son Jim opened Northern Lights Bakery, which they operated until 2006. A great cook, she enjoyed sharing her culinary skills with friends and family. Gracia adored her family and friends, valued close relationships and maintained contact with those far and near. She was a progressive thinker - open to new ideas, while remaining true to her beliefs encouraging discussion and debate on environmental and political topics. She enjoyed traveling, especially to visit family, gardening, caring for her yard and feeding her beloved birds. She never forgot a birthday, and loved to write letters. She was extremely well-read, her favorite subject was history and her library of books was impressive. She took great interest in her Celtic heritage, and celebrated it often. Gracia enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren as they participated in sports and other activities. She was an avid fan of local sports teams and faithfully attended MSU-Northern Football games. She was a diehard Seattle Seahawks 12th woman. Gracia loved all types of music, and she embraced electronic forms of communication, becoming an enthusiastic iPad and cell phone correspondent. Gracia was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gene in 2010; her parents Jesse and Dorothy Brownrigg; and her brothers Leo and Gary Brownrigg. She is survived by her beloved children, Ronald (Faye) Gabriel of Missoula, Patricia (Charles) Turner of Jeffersonton, VA, Gale (Nan) Gabriel of Havre, Carol (Paul) Candleana of Boulder, CO, and James Gabriel of Havre; her four-footed children Rufus and Molly; her seven grandchildren; her four great-grandchildren; her sister Lois Yellowvich of Puyallup, WA, and brother Robert Brownrigg of South Bend, WA. A memorial in Gracia's name has been established at the Havre Senior Citizen's Center in Havre at the following address: 2, 2nd St. West, Havre, Montana 59501.
