On July 25, 2014 our amazing mother passed from this world to eternal life. Grace Ellen Kurtz Nordrum was born March 29, 1927 to Frank and Alice (Dunn) Kurtz in Havre, MT. She grew up south of Gildford where her parents homesteaded. Grace graduated from Havre High in 1945 and attended MSU in Bozeman for 2 years. Grace met Percy Nordrum in April of 1948 when he came to the Frank Kurtz farm to work as a hired man. He was on his way to Alaska and had only a few coins in his pocket when he got off the train in Havre. They were married on September 28, 1948 and moved to Oklee, MN, returning to Montana to farm south of Gildford in 1950. It was there that they "enjoyed" raising their 7 children. Mom, Dad and Dave finally made a trip to Alaska in 1978! Mom enjoyed sewing, playing cards and will be remembered for her weekly baking routine of 10 loaves of bread and 2 pans of cinnamon rolls. She always had room at the table for extras. On Sunday mornings, she would take a head-count to see how many "extras" would be there for breakfast! Mom liked routine; beds were made in the morning, meals were on time and we had assigned seating at the table and in the car. Mom especially enjoyed winters in Arizona with Dad and looked forward to connecting with their AZ friends each year. Mom and Dad lived in Whitefish and Columbia Falls from 1980 - 2000, returning to Havre to be near their children. In her last years, she was thoroughly entertained by her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's antics - they came by all their mischief quite naturally! Her children's spouses had a special place in her heart and she liked being "mom" to them also. Grace is preceded in death by her husband, Percy in 2005; son, Dave in 1990; brother, Fran; sister, Marion Fyall; grandson, Shane McCormick; and special niece, Nancy Kurtz Peterson. Grace is survived by her children: Charles (Patty)of Havre, Lavonne (Dennis) Schroeder of Miles City, Laurie (Glenn) Huestis of Chinook, Loretta (Keith) Eldridge of Havre, Lylas (Neil) McCormick of Kremlin, Percy Jr (Laurie) of Gildford and step-son, LeRoy Hruby of Oklee, MN; 12 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 step great-granddaughter, 1 step great-great grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
