Obituary

George Norman "Ponch" Belcourt, 78, passed away due to natural causes on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Peace Hospice in Great Falls.  Wake services will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, all at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in the Box Elder Cemetery.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Ponch was born on June 20, 1946, in Rocky Boy to Gilbert and Irene (Swan) Belcourt.  He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending grade school there and he moved to California in 1964.  There he attended trade school, becoming a typewriter repairman.  He met Linda Altman and the couple married in 1967.  They had four children, and returned to Montana before divorcing.  In 1979, Ponch married Linda McNabb and they had two children, before divorcing.  Upon his return to Montana, he began farming, retiring around 2018.

Ponch was a social, fun-loving jokester, who enjoyed fishing and camping.  Visiting his friends and family was a priority, and he loved to travel to Seattle to visit family.  Ponch was a family-oriented man who adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  They were absolutely the light of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Irene Belcourt; and siblings, Gilbert Belcourt, Jr., Marie Mock, Martin Belcourt, Sr., Irene Parisian, Darlene Freeman, Marvin Belcourt, Sr., Harley Belcourt, Shirley Meyers, and John Saltzman.

Ponch is survived by his children, Mark Belcourt of Great Falls, George Belcourt, Jr. of Havre, Randy Belcourt and Wendy De La Torre, both of Great Falls, and George Richard Belcourt III and Stephanie Collins, both of Havre; eighteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; friend, Linda Altman of Great Falls; siblings, Vera Lack of Polson, Richard Belcourt of Missoula, and Roberta Belcourt-Randall and Carla Striker, both of Rocky Boy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
