Fred R. Stump was born March 28, 1926, to John Stump, Sr. and Elizabeth Black Tongue. He passed away August 28, 2020.

Fred was a diligent worker, working for the BIA for 33 years. He had a great sense of humor and was well-liked by people he worked with. He took his responsibilities as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather seriously, making sure his family was well provided for. During his earlier years, he worked for the Roger Cronk Ranch. He took great pride in his work. Fred was a smart man, much smarter than he was given credit for. In 1960, Fred and his family relocated to Fort Worth, Texas, where he learned to be a mechanic. After graduation, he moved his family back to Harlem, Montana, where he worked for the Dolven Chevrolet dealership.

Fred possessed the greatest love and pride for all his children and grandchildren. He adored his only great-grandchild, Mailee LeBeau.

Fred was a veteran of World War II. He served under General George Patton's Third Army in the European Theater. His unit was the second division known as Hell on Wheels. One of his missions, along with the other members, was to help liberate the Jewish people at Dachau Concentration Camp. He also told us he rode horseback to help gather up the Lipizzaner horses for General Patton. He also took great pride in his two daughters that were in the Army and Air Force, Captain Loretta Stump and Specialist 4 Beatrice S. Waggoner.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 48 years, Leatrice Shawl Stump; his son Levi Stump; his 7 brothers, Pat, Pete, Donald, Jim, Clifford, John, and Rocky Stump; and his sisters, Flora Big Knife and Florence Sunchild.

He is survived by his daughters, Loretta Stump, Ramona Stump, and Beatrice (Sgt. James Waggoner) Stump-Waggoner; grandchildren, Ehoka (Mary Jo LeBeau) Stump; great-granddaughter, Mailee LeBeau; sister, Patsy Gopher; and sister-in-law, Martha Shawl Lambert.

Wake services will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2020, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2020, all at the Harlem BaptistChurch. Burial will follow in Pony Hill Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
