Obituary

Evelyn (Westermann) Smith, 84, of Havre, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013, at Hingham Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Schultz officiating. Burial will follow in Hingham Cemetery. The family has requested that memorials be made in Evelyn's name to Zion Lutheran Church in Chinook, Montana. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements. Evelyn was born on August 28, 1928, in Malta, Montana, to Walter and Aroline (Stellmacher) Westermann. She was raised in Havre, graduating from Havre High School. She married Leon Smith on May 25, 1946, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havre. The couple made their home in Hingham, raising their six children. Over the years, Evelyn worked as a cook at the Hingham school and as a clerk at Sandvig's in Rudyard. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and sewing, and was known for knitting and donating newborn hats to Northern Montana Hospital. She was a member of and played the organ at St. John Lutheran Church in Rudyard, Hingham Lutheran Church in Hingham, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havre, and Zion Lutheran Church in Chinook. Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband Leon Smith; her parents, Walter and Aroline Westermann; and her sister Eileen Stier. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Smith, Lynn (John) Paasch, and Wanda (Phil) Mills, all of Bremerton, Washington, and Pamela (Dave) Wilson of Havre; her sons, Larry (Wanita) Smith of Kalispell, and James Smith of Bremerton, Washington; her seven grandchildren, Leon Smith of Kalispell, Nancy Paasch and Tasha Smith, both of Bremerton, Washington, Scott (Becky) Paasch of Huson, Montana, Susan (Kevin) Schotte of Marysville, Kansas, Michael (Heidi) Topolosky of Rockford, Illinois, and Bryan (Amanda) Cross of Mesa, Arizona; her eight great-grandchildren, Dustin, Emily and Rachael Paasch, Kolton and Kyle Schotte, Belle and Joey Cross, and Eliott Topolosky; her sister Wardeen Kuenzel of Helena; and numerous nieces and nephews.
