Ervinal James
Denny, Sr.
March 9, 1951 – May 25, 2024
Ervinal Denny Sr., Iron Cane – Pîwâpisko Saskahohtâkan, was called home to our Creator in the early morning, at Northern Montana Care Center. Wake services will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2024, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2024, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
He was born to the late Bill and Theresa Chapican – Stump at their residence, in Rocky Boy, Montana, traditionally raised by Jim Denny and Maggie Little Bear – Denny. Ervinal was the eldest sibling out of six. In his early teens, he met his late wife, Renee Jean LaMere – Denny, where he started a family and built a home in Parker School for his family of six. Ervinal was a man of many trades – he was a rancher, a firefighter, a Rocky Boy School employee, trucker, and heavy equipment operator.
In the early 80s, Ervinal was one of the main truck drivers that helped pave the first roads on the Rocky Boy Indian Reservation. This was a very memorable time for his family as they got to experience him hard at work.
Not only was he a hard-working professional, but he was active in his traditional ceremonies - traditions such as sundance, powwows, and powwow singing where he was a member of the original Parker School Singers.
Ervinal is survived by his children – Ervinal Denny Jr., Shelley Marchand, Caroline Denny, Gary Lee Ferguson, Alton Ferguson, Akilah Ferguson, and Cori Goodvoice, Harley Louis of Maskwacias, Alberta, Canada (Brother) ; by his grandchildren – Taylor Ferguson, Lauren Ferguson, Treyton Sutherland, and Creedance Goodvoice; greatgrandchildren – Layla Engeldinger, Riley Engeldinger, Treyton Sutherland Jr.
Ervinal is preceded in death by his late wife, Renee Jean LaMere – Denny, eldest son Kevin James Denny, grandson – Sage Brandon-Lee Ferguson Sr., great-grandson – Sage Brandon-Lee Ferguson Jr., and great-grandchild Saige Skye-Lee Ferguson - Buford.
