Ernestine "Chris" Wipf, 96, passed away due to natural causes at the Northern Montana Care Center on Friday, September 23, 2022. Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, in Highland Cemetery with Deacon Tim Maroney officiating. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.
Chris was born on February 3, 1926, in Havre to Ernest and Margaret (Ervin) Gertson. She was raised in Kremlin by her mother and stepfather, Cliff Knutson, graduating in the spring of 1945. Chris married Donald Flatt in Havre in 1946, and they were blessed with two sons, James and Bruce. The couple later divorced. Chris married John Wipf in 1957, and they enjoyed the next 46 years together before John passed away in 2003.
Chris and the boys spent the next several years together. They enjoyed throwing darts in a league, taking quick road trips around Montana, and listening to the music at the Vets and Eagles clubs on the weekends. Chris suffered a tremendous loss when Bruce passed away due to cancer in 2010.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wipf; son, Bruce Wipf; parents, Ernest Gertson and Margaret (Cliff) Knutson; and her siblings.
Chris is survived by her son, Jim Wipf and several nieces and nephews.
