Elizabeth "Liz"
Ann Mcintosh
December 9, 1957 – September 2, 2023
Elizabeth Ann "Liz" McIntosh passed away on Sept 2nd, 2023. A celebration of life with be held on
Saturday, September 9 th , at the 4-H Chuckwagon at the Hill County Fairgrounds at 4pm with Alec
McIntosh officiating. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to The Shriners Hospital for
Children or the charity of the donor's choice.
Liz was born on December 9th, 1957, to Duane and Joyce (Larsen) Barkus in Havre, MT. She was the
youngest of 5 children.
She graduated from Havre High School in 1976 and received a business degree from Northern MT
College (now MSU-N). Knowing she was going to be a farm wife, she rounded out her education with
welding and weed control classes.
On June 24th, 1979, she married her High School Sweetheart Don. They have been farming & ranching
together North of Havre ever since. In addition to farming, she worked in town preparing taxes and
payroll for accounting firms. The last 9 years she was the Deputy Clerk for the City of Havre while still
enjoying tax seasons with Scharfe, Kato & Co. Don &; Liz welcomed their daughter, Katie, in 1980 and
son, Danny, in 1983.
When Liz wasn't working, she liked to cross stitch, make craft projects, read, and play cards/games with
her family. She liked coming up with metal ideas for Donnie to make, traveling to the craft shows to
socialize with everyone, checking on the crops and going to Northern games together. Liz loved to
travel. They enjoyed weekend getaways to Calgary and many cruises both to sunny places and a couple
of trips to Alaska. She loved the excursions they would do while on their cruises and always brought
back gifts that were made by locals. She took a community ed course on Chinese Food and started a
family tradition of having it for our Christmas Eve meal. Sometimes she would add a new dish for
everyone to try that may or may not make it on the menu next year. Christmas music was her favorite
and according to her, it was okay to play it year around.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents, In-laws Robert McIntosh and Marian Rider, Brother-in-law
Dick Mohr, and nephew Ryan Barkus.
She is survived by her husband Don, children: Katie Valdez and Danny McIntosh, grandchildren: Mia,
Natalia, Ross Valdez, Deva and Dylan McIntosh, all of Havre. Siblings: Greg (Kathy) Barkus of Big Fork,
Murray (Delaine) Barkus of Billings, MT, Laurie (Larry) Schwenke of Coeur d' Alene, ID, Jane (Steve)
Hedstrom of Havre. Sister in laws Rosie Mohr of Cornell, WI, and Burnie (Charlie) Inman of Havre.
Numerous nieces, nephews & other extended family members, as well as many great friends.
Each family Christmas card ended with this so here it is one more time: "To those we love and see each
day and other loved ones far away, to friends whose love means so much and those with whom we are
out of touch, may the joy of the holiday season be with you."
