Eleanor Marie Brown passed away November 25, 2015 at Benefis Hospital from natural causes. She was with her oldest son, Warren Lee Brown and brother, Gene Brockie. Eleanor fought a long and hard battle with various physical ailments. No matter her discomfort, she was always optimistic and in good spirits. Her son Doug Brown stayed with her and attended to most of her needs and kept her company. When he left to fulfill employment commitments this past winter, her son Jeffrey moved in to attend to her needs. Eleanor was born July 12, 1949, at Hays, Montana, to Victor Aloysius Brockie and Rose Lenoir Brockie. She spent the next seven years of her life on her dad's ranch where she enjoyed learning the demands of life in that era. Since she had 4 older brothers(Peter, Lawrence, Eugene @ Emmett) she grew up to be a very stalwart and capable lady. She had one other brother, Leonard, who was younger than she. In l958 the family moved to Harlem where she finished her elementary education. Eleanor was married to George Birdtail in the early1960's. From this union there was two children, Rhonda and Wendell. She divorced him and continued to raise her children for the first years of their lives. She moved to Missoula when she 19 to obtain her GED through a program sponsored by the BIA. She had her children with her during this period. Not long after this they went to live with their dad at his ranch near Lodgepole In 1969 Eleanor moved to Denver where she attended a business school. During this period she was employed at various jobs until she completed her training. In 1974 Eleanor moved back to Harlem and lived with her mother. It was the year she met Bill Brown, a cowboy and rancher from 3-buttes. After a whirlwind courtship they set up homemaking in Harlem, Chinook, Gt Falls and eventually the Ft. Belknap reservation. They were blessed with 4 children; Warren Lee, Douglas, Jeffrey and Ella Rose. After a brief period where she served as "buffalo watcher", Bill and Eleanor moved to Gt. Falls where they lived and continued raising their children. Sometime in the early 90's the Brown clan moved back to Harlem. During this period she obtained employment with the Ft. Belknap Housing department. She worked for maintenance and especially enjoyed her work. The family lived at the Brown ranch, 3- Buttes at this time and Warren and Dougie both began their rodeo careers here. The family continued living here at 3-Buttes until Bill died in the year 2000. Eleanor became very ill in 2003 and her residence after this was in Gt. Falls where she lived until her death. Eleanor is survived by two brothers, Eugene and Leonard; 3 sons, Warren Lee(Jackie), Douglas and Jeffrey(Lloydine) and one daughter, Ella Rose(David); various nieces and nephews and a lot of grand children in New Mexico, Arizona and Montana. Eleanor also had a son named Bergen who lives in Arizona. She was preceded in death by her Dad, Mother, Daughter(Rhonda), husband, 3 brothers and a sister, Mary Ann who died at birth. The wake for Eleanor is on November 29 with rosary at 7 p.m. Services will be 11 a.m. on Monday, November 30th. All services will be at the Red Whip Center in Fort Belknap. Burial will follow at the Brown Ranch of 3 Buttes in Fort Belknap.
