Obituary

Eldor "Pete" Winfred Peterson 88 of Havre, Mt passed away July 3, 2018. Pete was born in Parshall, North Dakota on February 6, 1930 to Hassel and Frieda Peterson and grew up with 3 brothers and 4 sisters on their families' homestead. Pete attended school and chose to enlist in the Marines. After his service in the Marines, he became a member of the National Guard and retired from his military career in 1990 earning the rank First Sargent. He was also recognized as an expert marksman.

It was during his service he met John Black and they became close friends. Pete moved to Havre, Mt and began his career in automotive repair. Pete later married the sister (Rose Ann) of his close friend John. They had four children together. Pete enjoyed playing guitar for his children when they were young and began painting as a hobby. He and his children enjoyed the outdoors. He taught his children and grandchildren to hunt and fish. Pete built and began his own auto body repair shop, "Pete's Auto Body" until he fully retired in the nineties. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and telling stories to all his family and many friends over the years from the Vet's Club, Eagles, and Tip-it.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents, Hassel and Frieda Peterson, his brothers Palmer, Wendell, and Ronald and by 3 sisters Lorraine Bartelson, Elda Nixon, and Florence Ross; his children Lora Leah Peterson, Judith Ann Johnson, James Allen Peterson and wife Rhoda, William Dean Peterson and grandson Derek Allen Peterson. He is survived by a sister Phyllis Thompson of Mohall, ND; his grandchildren Mandy (Ismael) Ramales of Havre, MT, Keira Patera of Havre, Mt, and Jeremy Johnson of Aztec, NM; great-grandchildren Eric, Chris, Chole, Rhoda, Chelsea, Navelle, and Marcos; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Pete had many he loved and treated like family over the years, including his "Tip-It family."  Memorial Donations can be sent to Montana Game Wardens Association - P.O. Box 68 - Helena MT 59624.  All donations will be given to the Hunter Education Program.
