Eldon Arthur
Remus
September 14, 1947 – August 28, 2017
Eldon Arthur Remus of Columbia, Missouri passed away peacefully August 28, 2017, in Havre, Montana. Retired, he was traveling and enjoying nature.
Born September 14,1947, in Marathon County, Wisconsin to Albert S & Victoria L (Wiederhoeft) Remus, the second of four children, he grew up on the farm his parents bought near Athens, Wisconsin.
In 1965 he married Sharon R Hardt. He bought his parents farm before his dad died Sept 20, 1971, from health issues. There he farmed with his family until 1978 when they then moved to Germantown, WI. He allowed his wife to paint their new home, located on top of a hill, santonio rose (PINK) and it could be seen for miles. While living there, he was a machinist and worked maintenance. He helped build a leather factory from scratch. In 1984 the family moved to Columbia, MO where his brother in law lived.
He and his wife raised six children, however, in 1987 they divorced. He remarried in 1999 to K. Gaye Berkemeyer. They divorced in 2002.
Since moving himself and his family to Columbia, Eldon started and ran a successful home remodeling company working as a handyman, contractor and remodeler. While operating his business he cultivated countless friendships with his honesty, integrity, and relentless hard work and generosity. He teased incessantly but was serious and fiercely opinionated at the same time. He expected nothing more than what he was willing to do and was a good example of a hardworking and dedicated person. Many times he tried to help instill good work ethics in his grandchildren and those that worked for him, always teaching them. He lived a long hard working life, and in the end he got to see some sites.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Jonathan E. Remus Tamerius (2010).
He is survived by 6 children, Ricky E (Wendy) Remus of Columbia, MO, Timothy Remus of Columbia, MO, Rebecca (Joel) Martinez of St Charles, MO, James (Kris) Remus of Columbia, MO, Jonathan (Michelle) Remus of Jefferson City, MO, and Jennifer Remus of Columbia, MO; 23 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Darla) Remus of Mantua, Ohio, Gary E (Debbie) Remus of Montgomery, Ill.; one sister, Marilyn (George) Gambill of Jackson, Tenn.; and 7 nieces & nephews.
Eldon was cremated. A memorial service will be held October 14, 2017 at 2:30 pm, 1905 Hillcrest Drive, Waters-Moss Memorial Wildlife Area, Moss Building, Columbia, MO 65201.
