Edwin Charles Deppmeier, Sr., 95, passed away on Thursday, June 16, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at the First Lutheran Church, 303 Sixth Street, Havre, Montana, on Tuesday, June 21, at 11:00 a.m., with internment immediately following at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Holland-Bonine Funeral Home, 210 Third Street, Havre, from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, June 20. Edwin was born to George and Doris Deppmeier on June 2, 1921, in Havre, where they homesteaded north of town. His parents then moved to Chicago, Illinois. and he attended early elementary school before the family returned to Havre. He graduated from Havre High School in 1939. After graduation Edwin served in the U S Army and was honorably discharged.
On September 7, 1945, he married Viola Sophie Stolz, and together they celebrated 54 years of marriage and the birth of eight children.
He enjoyed reading, fishing and time in the Bear Paw Mountains. Edwin farmed north of Havre for many years, worked for various contractors and farmers, and ultimately retired after 26 years with the Havre Public Schools.
He is survived by daughters Louise (Lloyd) Smith, Patricia (Frank) Ingram, Mary (Jay) Teal, Doris (Rick) Rutledge, Carol (Jeff) McFarland, and son Leonard (Margie) Deppmeier; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Miriam Kinzel and Phyllis Robbins, 2 brothers, Virgil and Larry; as well as numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola, a son and daughter, Edwin Jr. and Edna Jean, and one son-in-law, Jay Teal; three brothers: Lynn, Arnold and Gilbert.
Memorial suggestions include contributions to the Havre Public Library or the Recreation Fund at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre, or to one's choice.
