Edna Faye
Miller
April 9, 1934 – November 24, 2024
Edna Faye "Blue" Medicine Bear Miller
Edna Faye "Blue" Medicine Bear Miller, 90, of Harlem, joined her ancestors in the spirit world Sunday, November 24, 2024. Edna was born April 9, 1934, at Fort Belknap Agency, the daughter of the late Benjamin Bear and Josephine (Pephyrs) Bear.
Edna was raised by her maternal grandparents Agnes (Red Feather) and George Cochran. She attended school in Harlem, Calexico, California and Flandreau Indian Boarding School in South Dakota.
Edna married Daniel "Soak" Miller and had three children, April, Jim and Desiree. After 18 years of marriage, they divorced. Edna remained single up until her death.
Throughout her life Blue had worked for various Fort Belknap tribal programs, including the Fort Belknap Camp Crier, and was a cook for the Alcohol Treatment Program. Blue then took a state job which was the WIC program on Fort Belknap and worked for 20 plus years until she retired. She will always be remembered as the "WIC Gramma" by many. She truly loved that job and all her WIC babies, and there were many. She also volunteered at the Fort Belknap Tourism and information center.
Blue enjoyed visiting with all her lifelong friends and was a very good storyteller. She had fond memories about "down the valley". She was a social butterfly and was kind to everyone she met. She loved attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. She loved watching NBA games and CNN (she could tell you all the latest news about the country). She loved to cook and made the best buns and frybread, she could also cook up a mean pot of beans and ham hocks. She loved spending time with her children, grand and great grandchildren. Blue was also an "Auntie-mom" to several of her nephews and nieces, as well as "Auntie-gramma" to many in the Fort Belknap community.
Edna was preceded in death by sisters Winona "Nona" Quirk, Mabel "Bitsy" Avery, Florence "Tiny" Medicine Bear and brother Westy Bear
Edna is survived by her son Jim (Barb) Miller Garrison, ND, April Miller Cutbank, Mt and Desiree (Jay) Springer Havre, Mt. and 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Sister Margie Plumage, bothers Charlie, Tom, and Wesly Medicine Bear.
Honorary Pallbearers are Bernard Azure, Terry Cole, Jon Adams, Colter Schwenke, Zach Miller, Dan Miller and Adam Miller.
