Obituary

Duane Lodge Pole, 58, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at Benefis Healthcare of natural causes. Wake services will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2015, and will continue until his traditional funeral service, which will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015, all at the Leslie Lodge Pole residence on Mission Taylor Road, with Merle Tendoy and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Duane was born on July 7, 1957, in Fort Belknap to William and Mary (Little Sun) Lodge Pole. He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending school there. Duane received his GED in 1977, and attended Bear River Technical College in Logan, UT, in 1978, receiving his carpentry certificate. He was employed as a carpenter for several tribal entities throughout his career, most recently working for the Chippewa Cree Housing Authority. He will be remembered for his respectful nature and his sense of humor. Duane enjoyed beading, loomwork, quillwork, reading, tanning, wood carving, and he loved making traditional regalia as well as hand drums. He will be remembered by his brothers, sisters, and children for his love of traditional Chippewa Cree culture and ceremonies. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents, William and Mary Lodge Pole; one older brother; two older sisters; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Duane is survived by his children, Cheyenne Cantrell of Denver, CO, and Shawn Quincy of WA; his five grandchildren; his brothers Robert Murie, William (Marge) Lodge Pole, Leslie Lodge Pole, and Donovan (Terri) Stump, all of Rocky Boy; his sisters Lois Gopher, Jolene (Doug) Crebs, Sharon (Leonard) Cantrell, Sandra Stump, and Odessa (Andrew) Medicine Horse, all of Rocky Boy; and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
