Dean L. Henderson, 66, passed away due to natural causes at Northern Montana Hospital on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Wake services will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2025, and will continue until his funeral service which will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with Kelly Eagleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Henderson Family Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Dean was born on January 14, 1959, in Havre to Joseph J. and Mary Jane (Billy) Henderson. He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending school there. After elementary school, Dean transferred to Flandreau Indian School for the remainder of his education. Following his school years, he married Kathy Sutherland, and the couple had two sons. Dean ranched for many years, and also worked for the BIA in forestry and maintenance. He then began working in construction, from which he retired in 2019 due to a back injury.
For the majority of Dean's life, rodeo was his primary hobby. He rode bareback for many years, winning various awards. Dean was a lively man who loved to joke with his family and friends, and also enjoyed wood carving, welding, building primitive weapons, and watching his westerns.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Jane Henderson; siblings, Frank Henderson, Gloria Fisher, Donna (John Stump) Turner, Betty LaMere, Lyman Henderson, Yul Henderson, and Leno Henderson; stepdaughter, Jennifer Decoteau; and sister-in-law, Carol Henderson.
Dean is survived by his sons, Derek, TJ, and Gus Henderson, all of Rocky Boy; grandchildren, Mary Jane, Ryder, Tuff, Memphis, Myron, Mailoni, Kaycee, Krista, and Tristan; siblings, George , Odin (Mona), Virgil (Toni), and Olin Henderson, and Judith Woods, all of Rocky Boy; sister-in-law, Patty (Morsette) Henderson; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
