June 3, 1951 – September 4, 2022
David Joseph "Jay" Meyers, Sr., 71, passed away due to natural causes at his residence on Sunday, September 4, 2022. Wake services will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 5, 2022, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Meyers Family Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Jay was born on June 3, 1951, in Harlem to Donald and Sophie (Mitchell) Meyers. He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending school there. Following his school years, Jay entered the US Army and served until his medical discharge in 1970. He then returned home and married Shirley Belcourt in 1971. The couple had six children whom they raised in Rocky Boy. Over the years, Jay worked for Dry Fork Farms as a farm hand, a sprayer for Tribal Noxious Weed Control, and part time as an auto mechanic. He then began working for the Chippewa Cree Tribe as a maintenance worker for nearly 15 years, retiring in 2016.
Jay was a true family man who loved his children and adored spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed splitting wood, tinkering on cars, gambling and socializing in the casino, playing Bejeweled on his phone, and watching movies on YouTube.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2020; son, David Meyers, Jr.; parents, Donald & Sophie Meyers; and sisters, Diana, Patricia, and Donna Sue Meyers.
Jay is survived by his children, Sophie (JP Sandberg) Meyers, Larry (Lena Jo Henderson) Meyers, Jason (Terri) Meyer, Richard Meyers, Henry J. Meyers, and Kylie Jo Meyers, all of Rocky Boy; 18 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Judy (Mike) Badgley of Havre, Cynthia (Ron) Bigback of Busby, and Jewel (Myron) Oats of Rocky Boy; brothers, Bruce Meyers of Rocky Boy, Donny (Roberta) Meyers of Missoula, and Henry (Raquel) Meyers of Riverton, WY; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
