Obituary

David J. Hofer, 86, passed away due to natural causes at his residence on Thursday, May 12, 2022, with his beloved wife by his side.  His wake will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2022, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022, all at the East End Colony Church.  Burial will follow in the East End Colony Cemetery.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

David was born on December 5, 1935, in Magrath, Alberta, Canada, to Jacob D. and Sarah J. (Wipf) Hofer.  He lived in Magrath until he was thirteen, when the family moved to Rockport, Montana.  He relocated to Hilldale in 1963, and finally settled at East End Colony, where he met and married Rachel J. Wipf.  For many years, David worked as the poultry boss, caring for the chickens and ducks for the colony.  He retired in 2007.

David was a quiet, reserved man who enjoyed reading and flower gardening with his wife.  Children were an unending source of joy for him, and he spent as much time with the colony children as he could.  They, in turn, adored the kind, gentle man who loved them so much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Sarah Hofer; sisters, Rebecca (Ike) Wurz, Mary (John) Waldner, and Susie, Katie, and Magdalena Hofer; and brothers, Jacob (Susie) and Peter Hofer.

David is survived by his wife, Rachel (Wipf) Hofer of East End; sister, Sarah (George) Waldner of Camrose Colony; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he adored.
