Obituary

Dale Marie Russette, 65, passed away due to natural causes on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Seasons Hospice at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, IL.  Wake services will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023, and will continue until her funeral service which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023, all at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in the Russette Family Cemetery.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Dale was born on November 12, 1957, in Fort Belknap to James and Bernice (Myers) Russette.  She was raised in Rocky Boy, and attended school in Siti, NM, and Busby, Montana, where she met Gary Spang.  The couple married after high school, and settled in Lame Deer for several years, where they had their seven children.  While in Lame Deer, Dale attended Dull Knife Community College, obtaining her certificate in carpentry.  The family moved to Rocky Boy in 1988, where Dale worked first for Chippewa Cree Housing as a carpenter, and then for the Rocky Boy Schools as a cook, a job she absolutely loved.  Her health began to decline, and Dale retired just before 2000.  While in Rocky Boy, she took many children as her own.

Dale was a quiet, kind, and loving woman who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, the most.  She was a giving woman, who always found what she needed to care for her family, including the adopted ones.  She was a caregiver at heart, and would do whatever she needed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Spang, Sr.; sons, Gary, Jr., and Westy Spang; grandchildren, Kyla and Antonio Valdez; parents, James and Bernice Russette; siblings, James Russette, Jr., Janna Chavez, and Sherry and Bernita Russette; and numerous extended family.

Dale is survived by her children, Sherry Spang of Chicago, IL, Jacob (Geri Calvin) Spang and Francine Spang, all of Rocky Boy, Dwight (Mariel Talks Different) Spang of Fort Belknap, Lacey Russette of Chicago, IL, Kristy (Darrin Watt) Chavez of Billings, and James (Sheila Weatherwax) Dixon of Great Falls; numerous grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruth (Lyman) WolfChief of Rocky Boy, Deanna (Udall) Gibson, Sr., of Thoreau, NM, Dean Russette of Rocky Boy, Wesley (Renessa) Russette of Lame Deer; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
