Obituary

Dagny O. Carlson, 94, longtime Havre area resident, died Monday, May 23, 2011, of natural causes in a Havre care center. Her Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at the First Lutheran Church, followed by graveside service at Highland Cemetery and a fellowship luncheon at the church. Memorials in Dagny's honor may be made to Northern Montana Care Center Chapel Fund; First Lutheran Church or a memorial of one's choice. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Dagny was born September 4, 1916 in Veblen, South Dakota to Gilbert and Karen Jensvold. She was raised in Veblen, where she graduated from Veblen High School in 1934. She married Clifford I. Carlson on June 4, 1937. Before moving to Havre in 1946, they lived in Brookings, South Dakota, Rushmore and Granite Falls, Minnesota, Glasgow, Montana and Selah, Washington. Dagny and Cliff's first months in Havre found them living in the basement of the Devlin elementary school until housing became available. Dagny was involved in First Lutheran Church where she participated in various circles and quilting groups. She was active in the Church choir as a vocalist and pianist and also spent many years teaching Sunday school. Dagny enjoyed spending time with her and Cliff's dear friends the Schuschke's; especially holidays and camping in the Bear Paw Mountains. Her love and dedication to others was also evident as she provided day care to many children as her own family grew up. Dagny was preceded in death by her husband Cliff, sister Marie and daughter in law Cheryl. She is survived by her children Lenore (Robert) Davies of Navato, California, Charlene (Vern) Tolo of Pasadena, California and David Carlson of Havre; eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one niece and one nephew. With such a zest for life, Dagny touched so many lives but most importantly those of her family and friends. Her three favorite words, faith, hope and love, are truly a reflection of the wonderful woman we all know.
