Craig Kent
Otterstrom
June 11, 1946 – February 1, 2025
Craig Kent Otterstrom, a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, loving husband, devoted father, and cherished grandfather, passed away on February 1, 2025, in Helena, Montana, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 78 years old.
Born on June 11, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Craig was the son of Oscar Melrose Otterstrom and Annie Laurie Lovelady Otterstrom. He grew up alongside his three siblings, Clyde, Rodney, and Annie Jean, in a home filled with love, laughter, and a strong sense of family.
Craig's life was defined by service and passion. He joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served honorably, and it was during his time stationed at the radar base outside of Havre, Montana, that he met the love of his life, Sheila Ann Peterson. The two married in 1968, beginning a lifetime of love and adventure together.
Following his military service, Craig and Sheila settled in Salt Lake City, where they welcomed two sons, James and Brian "Odie." In 1979, they returned to Havre, Montana, where Craig became a well-known and beloved member of the community. Over the years, he worked as a car salesman, security guard, landscaper, and bricklayer, but he was best known for his many years at the Havre Daily News.
Craig had an undeniable love for all things automotive. An avid car enthusiast, backyard mechanic, and drag racer, he found joy in collecting muscle cars, attending car shows, and being an active member of the Hi-Line Cruz'n Association. He was also a dedicated sports fan, passionately cheering on the Utah Jazz and his alma mater, MSU Northern.
Beyond his love for cars and sports, Craig had a soft spot for cats and provided a home for many over the years. He appreciated their companionship and often found comfort in their company.
More than anything, Craig will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. Whether talking cars, sports, or sharing a good joke, he had a way of making people feel welcome and valued.
Craig is survived by his two sons, James and Brian "Odie"; their wives, Daminica and Stacey; his ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived.
A memorial service and car show to celebrate Craig's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Craig's honor to a veterans' support organization or local humane society.
Craig, may your engine always roar, your road be endless, and may you forever have a cat curled up by your side. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
