Obituary

Christine Cliff Main, 75 years old, was born in Lodge Pole, Montana to Olivia Brisbo Healy and Thomas Cliff. She was raised in Lodge Pole located on the southern end of the Ft. Belknap Reservation and has lived here all her life. She was one of eleven children born to Olivia and Tom, but was also raised by her stepdad, the late John F. Healy. She attended grade school in Pierre, South Dakota and later went on to Flandreau Indian Boarding School, in Flandreau, South Dakota where she graduated. In the early years of Fort Belknap College, mom decided it was time she try out college. With a lot of encouragement, she went to college, studying in the Human Services Field. In 1955, Christine met the love of her life, Gerald B. Main, Sr., whom she married and just celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary, on August 25th. To this union, they have seven(7) children: Wesley, Wendell, Gerald, John, Laurie, Corrina, and Gail. Christine has always been a mother to not only her own children, but numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and anyone else that just needed a place to go. With the biggest, kind heart she always helped whoever needed it, even though they never asked sometimes. Christine also worked for the Ft. Belknap Community Health Representatives(CHRs) as a Reservation Wide CHR. This was before there were any GSA(government issued) vehicles to work in. She used her own car and served the entire reservation(Lodge Pole, Agency, Hays, Dodson), checking on and taking care of many of our Elders who have since passed on. She did this for many, many years and said she was ready to retire'. Upon retirement, she was asked to serve on many of our Tribally Organized Boards for the Ft. Belknap Community Council. She served on the Housing Board and Health Board, and assisted these departments in many of the decision making on issues to help improve some of the things on the reservation for her people. She was also actively involved and served on the Hays/Lodge Pole Board of Trustees for many years, as representative from the Lodge Pole Area. With her husband, Gerald, they took a small Dance Troupe around to local pow-wows showcasing the talents of not only their children, but any kids that wanted to participate. They were also part of the old house dances that were held around Lodge Pole and frequently visited Andrew and Jenny Gray, Walter & Agnes LongFox and many of the old timers. From them, Christine and Gerald continued to teach their children the ways of dance and song. Christine was a very skilled seamstress and beader, and made all of her children's dance outfits. She and Gerald were very talented in the Western Style of waltz and swing and won a few Dance Contests. Christine also had a love for all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. These kids were all that she looked forward to, especially attending their sporting events, powwows, and rodeos or anything that her grandkids were involved in. Christine was one of the most awesome persons to ever walk this earth. She had a kind and giving heart. She was wife, mom, grandma, and adopted mother to many and will be sorely missed by all. Christine is survived by her husband, Gerald and Sons: John and Wesley Main of Lodge Pole, Gerald "Shorty"(Annie) Main of Hays, Wendall "Sack"(Cleo) Main of Heart Butte, Laurie and Gail Main of Lodge Pole, and Corrina Main of Billings.
