Charlis Ann Carpenter, 84, passed away on October 17, 2026, at home surrounded by her loved ones. A memorial service will be held on November 6, 2026, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Havre, Montana. Cremation has taken place and Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements. 

Charlis was born on September 14, 1942, in Williston, North Dakota to Arnold and Helen (Metzger) Peterson and was the 2nd of 7 children. The family relocated to Havre Montana in 1944 and she graduated from Havre High School in 1961 then attended Northern Montana College. In 1963, she married her soul mate Daniel Carpenter and had two children, Kathy and Daniel. Charlis and her family resided in Toronto, Ohio until returning to Havre in 1976. While her children were still in school, she decided to return to college and received her BA in Elementary Education from Northern Montana College in 1979. She loved her students and the years she spent substitute teaching.

Charlis was a very warm and caring person that made you feel loved and appreciated although she could be stubborn She cherished her family and friends and spending time with them is what was most important to her. She loved being surrounded by her family during holiday's and making memories that we all cherish to this day. She also loved to travel and spend winters in Parker Arizona where she and Dan made life long friends. She loved hard and laughed often.

She was proceded in death by Jack Peterson (brother), Helen Metzger-Peterson (mother), Arnold Peterson (father), Daniel Carpenter (husband), Arnold H. Peterson (brother), Hila Stevens (sister).

She is survivied by her children Kathy (Mark) Carpenter-Steele, and Daniel (Melissa) Carpenter. Her siblings Edith Tidrick, Charles/Bud (Beverly) Peterson, Jody (Doc) Peterson. Her grand children Brittney Carpenter, Hali Carpenter, Nicolas Steele, Devyn Carpenter, Dylan Carpenter and Michael Steele, six great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.
