Carole was born on September 21, 1944, in Havre, to James and Florence (Collins) Monteau, one of 12 children. She was raised in Rocky Boy, attending elementary and junior high school there, and attended Flandreau High School in South Dakota. While there, she began her training as a dental assistant. She attended Dental Assistant College in Lawrence, KS, and Northern Montana College. On September 21, 1964, Carole married George Henderson in Chinook. They spent the next 54 years running cattle and raising children while Carole worked for the Federal Government at the Rocky Boy Clinic, first as a Dental Assistant, and then as a Contract Health Specialist for IHS and the Chippewa Cree Tribe. Carole retired in 2010, and soon after, she and George adopted their grandson Maverick. After retirement, Carole could not stay away from the Clinic, and she returned there to work in housekeeping.
Carole enjoyed attending rodeos and ropings, horses, sewing moccasins, playing pool with George, and playing the machines. She was a avid reader, and spent much of her time and her talent with her green thumb caring for her houseplants.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents James and Florence Monteau; granddaughter Garilee Henderson; brothers, Joe and Richard Monteau; and sisters Sandy Murie and Verna Kezar.
She is survived by her husband George Henderson of Rocky Boy; children Frank (Sybil), Jesse (Tysha), George Jr., Scott (Leona Johnson), and Mindy Henderson, all of Rocky Boy; twenty-one grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers John (Mary), Curtis Sr., and Harold (Elizabeth) Monteau; and sisters, Donna (Mike) Devinney, and Judy, Tracy, and Jill Monteau; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and many, many friends.
