Carol "Bud" Borlaug
August 12, 1940 – November 2, 2024
Carol "Bud" Borlaug, a devoted family man and dedicated worker, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024. Born to George and Clara (Christensen) Borlaug in Havre, Montana, on August 12, 1940, Bud began his education at the Pride of Prairie School and later attended school in Gildford, where he graduated with the class of 1958.
In 1960, Bud joined the United States Navy, where he specialized in Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) systems. His service laid the groundwork for a lifelong career in electronics, a field he pursued with dedication and expertise. After his honorable discharge in 1964, he returned home and, in 1965, married Mary Jo Jones. Together they welcomed two children, Michelle and Greg. Later, Bud found love again with Mary Jane Hemmer, marrying in 1981 and growing their family with two more children, Stephen and Brian.
Bud worked with dedication at Triangle Communications, contributing 35 years before retiring. He retired from both farming and his long career at Triangle in 2004, but farming was always a part of who he was. Above all, he was a proud father, cherishing each of his children's accomplishments.
Bud leaves behind a legacy of hard work and resilience. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara, his sister, Selma, his brother, Martin and niece, Debbie. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Jane; his daughter, Michelle Remus (Todd); sons, Greg (Julie), Stephen, and Brian (Suzie); as well as his cherished grandchildren, Dylan, Garrett, Fiona, and Parker, step-grandchildren, Connor and Makia Remus; his sister, Sonya Vande Sandt (Hap); and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gildford Volunteer Fire Department and the Havre Food Bank in Bud's memory.
