Obituary

Carol Lynn Campbell “Old Lady Sweetgrass”, 83, passed away on September 10, 2026, in Great Falls, Montana. A wake will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rocky Boy Montana on September 13, 2026, starting at 4 p.m. and Rosary at 7p.m. The funeral service will take place September 14, 2026, at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at St. Pierre Hill Cemetery. Holland and Bonine Funeral Home have been entrusted with arrangements. 

Carol was born on December 22, 1942, in Fort Belknap Montana to Bernard and Margaret (LaFromboise) Montes. She had many jobs throughout her life, she worked as a secretary and housekeeper. Carol devoted her life to raising her children and her grandchildren. She had a hand in raising many nieces and nephews. Carol was an avid quilter, crocheter, and knitter. She was a loving mother and grandmother, she adored all the children she helped to raise over the years.

Carol is survived by her children, Michael Campbell, JoVel Campbell, Bernard Montes, Willamina Campbell-Tailfeathers, brothers Richard Montes and James (Lydia) Montes, Goddaughter Jewel Whitford, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Margaret Montes and her sisters Bernice McGuire and Rosetta Montes.
