Carita Lois Lodgepole, 51, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Her wake service will begin today, Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 4 p.m. with her funeral service beginning 10 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2024, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Her burial will follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Carita was born on March 7, 1972, in Havre to Leonard and Sharon (Lodgepole) Cantrell. She was raised in Rocky Boy, attending school there. Over the years, Carita worked for HeadStart as a cook and bus driver, and as a bus driver for the Rocky Boy and Box Elder schools for many years, and as a babysitter for her many sisters. She was loved and adored by all the children who rode her bus.
Carita enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going on drives through the Bear Paw Mountains, and going on road trips and music concerts with Darrell. She liked to read, have her nails done and cooking, for her family. Everyone looked forward to the birthday and holiday dinners and especially eating her potato salad.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, several aunts and uncles.
Carita is survived by her husband, Darrell SunChild, Sr.; children, Alesia (TJ Roasting Stick) Cantrell and Annmarie Rose (John Stiffarm, Sr.) Cantrell; stepchildren; Darrell (Jolin) SunChild Jr., Dwight Darcey and Dalton SunChild. eight grandchildren, Tegan, Tirsten, Tevan, Tristen, and TaiLynn Windy Boy, and Navaya, Stetsyn, and TaiVon Stiffarm, Tyrese, SaKara, and Dayton SunChild,; all of the SunChild grandchildren; parents, Leonard and Sharon Cantrell; brothers, Robert Cantrell, Sr., and Leonard (Misty Chiefstick) Cantrell; sister, Lynette Sandy Rose Cantrell, her special friend Roberta Lynn Azure; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
