Bruce H. Sunchild, Kah-m-is Skahm- Ki-Nahm "Good Earth", 77, passed away due to natural causes on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Northern Montana Hospital.  Wake services will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022, and will continue until his funeral service which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2022, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow in the Warriors Burial Grounds Cemetery.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Bruce was born on March 23, 1945, in Rocky Boy to Four Souls and Fannie Sunchild.  He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending school there.  Following his school years, he enlisted in the US Army and served until his honorable discharge in 1970.  Bruce then returned home to Rocky Boy and married Valerie Anderson in 1971.  The couple had five children whom they raised in Rocky Boy.  Over the years, Bruce worked for IHS, and was elected to the Chippewa Cree Tribe Business Committee several times.  He also served two terms as Tribal Chairman.

Bruce enjoyed driving around the reservation, carpentry, and tinkering.  He was involved with the rural water project in 2012 and the Northern Montana College Youth Build Program.  While serving on the Business Committee, Bruce remained very involved, having helped secure the Chippewa Cree Tribe transaction code (first banking agreement), and served on the CCT Human Services Board, ICWA Board, and the Housing Board.  He was a gentle, kind, humble man who was proud of his heritage, and taught his children and their children the ways of his people.

He was preceded in death by his daughters, Sonya and Irene Sunchild; parents, Four Souls and Fannie Sunchild; and siblings, Ned and John "Roddy" Sunchild, Dorothy Small, and Zella Nault.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Valerie Sunchild of Rocky Boy; daughter Dawn (Juan) Sunchild Gamble of Rocky Boy; sons, Wilford "Huck" and Bruce Sunchild, Jr., both of Rocky Boy; fourteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Mitchell and Helen Parker, both of Rocky Boy; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
