Obituary

It is with love and peace that Brandy Mae Lawrence, 40, stepped into eternity on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. With grace and quiet strength, she crossed into the next life, where she was lovingly welcomed by her grandma Florence, father James, and sister Michelle- reunited in love, memory, and everlasting eternal peace.  Services are pending with Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.

Brandy was born on May 17, 1985, in Great Falls, Montana, to Delilah Cabarett and James Lawrence. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Florence and James DuBois, in Box Elder- a home filled with unconditional love and the kind of care that shapes a beautiful life. Even as a young girl, Brandy carried herself with quiet grace, a soft smile, and a depth beyond her years.

A proud graduate of Box Elder High School, Brandy completed her education with honors in 2003. She was also a talented athlete who found joy and purpose on the court—competing in volleyball and basketball. Her teammates lovingly called her "Big Bran," a name that echoed her strength, leadership, and the love she brought to the game. After high school, she briefly attended Stone Child College and found she wasn't ready for the college experience.

Brandy chose a different path- one guided by courage, duty, and purpose. She proudly enlisted in the United States Army, completing basic training in South Carolina. Her dedication and strength led her across the world, where she completed two tours in South Korea, stationed at Camp Stanley. She also served at Fort Hood in Texas and Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington. As a petroleum supply specialist, Brandy gave her all to her mission and took immense pride in wearing the uniform. Her years in the military shaped her spirit and introduced her to an extended family of fellow soldiers whom she held dear to her heart.

Brandy was the kind of soul who saw beauty in the small things. She had a deep love for music- especially hip-hop and R&B- and often turned to writing as an outlet for her creativity. Her poems and lyrics were little windows into her heart: honest, sometimes playful, but always hers. She was a passionate reader and a lifelong learner who approached life with quiet curiosity. In the kitchen, she was fearless and inventive—never afraid to try something new.

At the center of her world were her three children: Brandon, Briahnna, and Deshawn (D.J.). They were her greatest joy, her deepest pride, and the most enduring piece of her heart. Brandy was a good mother—one with a big, generous heart. She gave her children the things they needed and loved them with her entire existence. Though life's path didn't always allow her to be present in every moment, her love for them was unwavering. She always carried them in her spirit. Brandy found joy in simple, meaningful moments: taking her kids to the park, cooking their favorite meals, laughing with them, and soaking in the beauty of their presence. She was especially grateful to Benjamin Fork and Willy McDowell for all they do for their children, and she deeply appreciated the many people who helped raise and support them along the way. She also acknowledged Jamal Lundy as part of their story. Brandy held a special place in her heart for Holly (Mike) Pierce, a loving and steady caretaker in Brandon's life. Above all, she treasured the extended family and community who wrapped her children in love.

Brandy was welcomed into the next world by her father, James Lawrence; her sister, Michelle Lawrence; her grandmothers, Florence DuBois and Yvonne Lawrence; and her grandparents; Ray and Marge Riggin and Roger and Ann Sherman; each waiting to greet her with love. She was also greeted by her best friend Sara Big Knife.

She leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and unwavering love. Surviving her are: her grandfather, James DuBois of Box Elder, MT; her children, Brandon Lawrence of Great Falls, MT, Briahnna Fork of Walla Walla, WA, and Deshawn McDowell of Great Falls, MT; her mother, Delilah Cabarett of Great Falls, MT; her brother, Shane Sangrey of Box Elder, MT; her sister, Kashina McClure of Jonesborough, TN; her adopted sisters, Tami Infante of Fresno, CA, and Danae Infante of Havre, MT; her adopted brothers and beloved cousins, Carl Sangrey and Joshua Sangrey of Great Falls, MT; her aunts, Sylvia Sangrey of Box Elder, MT, and Angie Cabarett-Santiago of Great Falls, MT; her grandmother, Edye Wilson (Walt) of Vaughn, MT; and her cherished nieces and nephews, Araya, Alivia, Mya, T'Auna, Kamari, Kadence, Justin, and Kristian. She also leaves behind a village of cousins, uncles, aunts, and friends who will carry her memory forward with love. Brandy also held her friends like family- especially Chassidy Parisian, Candace Eagleman, and Nicole Mitchell. Her loyalty ran deep, and she never let a loved one go without knowing they mattered.

Brandy's journey on this earth was marked by quiet strength, fierce loyalty, and an open heart. She gave her love freely, served her country proudly, and brought light wherever she went. Though her voice is now part of the wind, her presence will echo in every song, every story, and every soul she touches.
