Obituary

Barbara M. Dion, 86, passed away due to natural causes on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at the Care and Comfort Home. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2020, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery. Barbara's family has suggested memorial donations be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the charity of the donor's choice. Barbara was born at home in Havre on March 22, 1933, to Marvin and Marion (Stopyra) Hughes. She was raised on the Hi-Line, graduating from Havre High School in 1951. That same year, she married Walter E. Dion, and the couple had four children. Barbara and Walt farmed his family's farm until their retirement, at which time, they sold the farm and moved into Havre to live full-time. During the winter, they enjoyed their home in Yuma, Arizona, until 2013, when they sold the home. Walt passed away in 2015, and Barbara lived with her daughter Lana for just over 3 years before entering the Care and Comfort Home.

Barbara enjoyed flower gardening and was a skilled seamstress, performing alterations for several clothing shops.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Gary and Baby Boy Dion; husband Walter Dion; parents Marvin and Marion Hughes; siblings, Patsy Hedges, William Hughes, and Peggy Jarrels; and all of Walt's siblings.

Barbara is survived by her children, Lana (Dave) Herman and Scott Dion, all of Havre; grandchildren, Karly Wisher, Collin Dion, Ryan Mapes, Alan Mapes, Jill Conover, and Erica Dion; thirteen great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, William Hedges of Cut Bank and Don Jarrels of Virginia; former sister-in-law, Karen Hughes of St. Paul, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
