Obituary

Alvah "Duke" Sutherland, After the Clouds Comes Thunder (KaH-a aH-paH-squa Kau-pi tah-sit-pi-to-tiw), 72, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at his Rocky Boy residence. Wake services will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2018, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, all at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Sutherland Family Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Duke was born on June 10, 1946, in Poplar, MT, to Korgal and Iola (Benson) Sutherland. He was raised in Poplar, attending school there until until high school. That was when the family moved to Rocky Boy, and he attended Box Elder High School. After his school years, he attended trade school in Chicago, IL for certification as a mechanic. After trade school, he moved to Glasgow to finish his mechanic's education. For the rest of his life, Duke was a mechanic that supplemented his income as a bus driver and police officer. He worked with the area youth, encouraging them in their sports pursuits, for many years.

Duke enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing slots on his tablet, and caring for his precious baby Trixie. He absolutely loved time with his family, and cherished every moment he spent with his grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, Korgal and Iola Sutherland; grandson Michael Red Door; his siblings, Barbara Red Door, Mavis Lodmell, and Buzzy Sutherland.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Sutherland of Rapid City, SD; children, Daniel (Roxanne Seymour) Sutherland, Ruby (Willy Stump) Sutherland, George (Kathleen) Sutherland, Brook (Darren Johnson) Sutherland, Celena Arrow Top Knot, John Sutherland, and George Sutherland V; sister, Louise Huntley; 28 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
