Alice Shelden passed away on 6/7/11 at the Northern Montana Care Center in Havre, MT of natural causes. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. A celebration of Alice's life will be held later this summer. Memorials may be sent to Northern Montana Care Center. Alice was born on December 2, 1919 on the family homestead near Glasgow, MT. She was one of six children born to William and Louisa (Gunst) Beck. She attended country school and graduated from Glasgow High School. Alice married Percy Shelden in 1938. The couple had six children. The family moved to Havre in 1962 with Percy's railroad job. The couple was later divorced. Alice was a busy homemaker and was an expert in many things, from making soap to gardening and canning to making delicious pies. She was a seamstress who altered clothing for many people and was famous for her meticulous crochet work. She entered items in the county fair and received several ribbons over the years. Alice volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center for over 30 years and loved her jobs there. She was a life member of the Eagles, a wonderful dancer and had a passion for playing bingo. She loved children, was a babysitter for several families and was thought of as a second grandma to lots of children. She enjoyed riding in the car and was willing to go along any time, "just to ride". She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Clarence, Sam, Marvin and Orvin Beck and Gertrude White. Her husband Percy also preceded her in death. Alice is survived by her children: Virginia (Kenneth) Wells of Hingham, MT; Chuck (Brenda, a.k.a. Bridget) Shelden of Patterson, WA; Patsy Shelden of Havre, Montana; Peggy (Tony) Reum of South Havre, Montana; Sally (Rich) Tokarzewski of Lakewood, WA; and Barry (Shelley) Shelden of Hingham, Montana, 10 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; 5 Great Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and their families. Alice's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the kind and loving care that she received at the Care Center. Alice was a giver and will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.
